Course Syllabus |
The Outdoors Emergency First Aid course covers-
- Understand the role and responsibilities of the first
aider
- Recording and reporting of accidents and incidents including
RIDDOR
- Discussion of specific outdoor related injuries Contents of a
first aid kit (including preventing cross infection)
- Emergency equipment for use outdoors Assessing the situation
and acting safely, effectively and promptly in an emergency
- Emergency assistance and evacuation techniques outdoors
Outdoor scenario trainingAdminister first aid to a casualty who
is/requires -
- Unconscious (including seizure)
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- Choking
- Wounded and bleeding
- Suffering from shock Suffering from hypothermia
- Appropriate first aid for minor injuries including minor cuts,
grazes, bruises, small splinters, minor burns and scalds
Administer first aid to a casualty with-
- Injuries to bones, muscles and joints
- Suspected spinal injuries
- Head injuries
- Stroke
- Asthma
- Heart Attack including Angina Diabetes
- Tick bites/Lyme disease

Assessment and
Qualifications |
Following final assessment, successful learners will receive an
Outdoors Emergency First Aid Certificate as well as an approved
Emergency First Aid at Work Certificate from an awarding body
(FAIB, SQA, or ITC) which is valid for three years.

Information |
Learners must be physically able to carry out procedures required
to meet awarding bodies (FAIB, SQA, or ITC) assessment
criteria.
Learners must be physically able to carry out first aid
training/scenarios outdoors. This course satisfies the requirements
of relevant outdoors qualifications National Governing Bodies such
as MLTS and BCU and fully covers the HSE Emergency First Aid at
Work syllabus .
Learners are required to attend a two day requalification course
after the three year period to keep the qualification valid.
It is strongly recommended learners update their
skills by attending a 3 hour annual refresher course.
